When Should I Start with Anti-Aging Skincare?

Aging is a natural part of life, and we can’t move away from it. Secret Beauty Club believes in celebrating every phase of beauty, and we encourage our community to adopt the same approach.

When you can look at your skin and aging positively, it’s a lot easier to move forward and embrace the next steps. With aging comes experience, adventures, wisdom, and love. There are many positives and lots to look forward to.

THE SIGNS
What is aging, and how do you tell if your skin is aging? As you get older, certain developments naturally come into play.

For example, you could start getting fine lines and wrinkles (when your granny told you to stop frowning so much as it would later leave a mark — wisdom comes with age!), and your skin could begin to sag.

This happens as your body’s ability to produce collagen slows down, and you start to feel the effects of the environment and your lifestyle.

LIFE STAGES
As you move from one stage of your life to the next, you need different support mechanisms. We look at it in the same way as approaching the seasons of the year. For winter, you will need warmer clothes, extra blankets, and additional supplements to keep your health in check and ensure you’re comfortable to go about your day-to-day activities.

In summer, you will need less clothing and may have to think about upping your hydration intake. With the sun out and about, you should ensure that you’re wearing SPF and are protected with a hat and sunglasses.

People have different preferences, and as naturally as someone could love and enjoy the cooler months, someone else may prefer the heat and light of summer.

The way your skin starts to age has a lot to do with your natural inclinations — genetics, environmental factors such as exposure to the sun and air pollution, stress levels, diet, and other lifestyle choices such as smoking.

SUPPORT YOUR SKIN
You may be wondering when to start supporting your skin with the impacts of aging. Each person is unique, and what works for one person may not necessarily be the best course of action for the next.

Many skincare experts speak about forming good skincare habits (such as a sustainable skincare routine and protecting yourself from the sun) early on in life so that you have less to worry about later on.

Secret Beauty Club has shared some of our anti-aging skincare secrets in an earlier blog post that you can catch up on over here. A tip that comes up a lot is watching the amount of sun exposure you get.

You know your body and skin better than anyone else, and it’s up to you to decide to put effort into your day-to-day decisions.

KEY NUTRIENTS
Ultimately, you will feel and recognize when your skin is lacking in nutrients and nourishment. If you can see that your skin is dry and flaky, you need to drink more water and ensure that your moisturizer provides enough hydration.

Using a journal to track your food and intake, with sleep, exercise, and sleep levels, can give you clues to why your skin may be looking and feeling a certain way.

Take the time to look in the mirror and become aware of your skin texture and condition. Understanding yourself, your needs, and your skin is where it all begins.

If you’re unsure of where to start, you can speak to your healthcare professional, and they will be able to guide you more comprehensively.

THE SUMMARY
For the most part, skincare experts recommend starting with anti-aging products in one’s mid-20’s.

With prevention being better than cure, awareness of your skin type and concerns can help you feed your skin with the correct anti-aging products.

Once you’re ready to find your perfect anti-aging skincare products, we have a blog post about how to choose the right ones here. Secret Beauty Club is happy to be alongside you every step of the way.
